A recent Ropin’ Rascals event in Keenesburg had over 450 guests, which included 37 sponsors. The children’s charity event raised $100,000 for charities including the Colorado Suns with Special Needs and Make-A-Wish Colorado. Our generous sponsors make the annual event at the Huwa Family Ranch in Keenesburg so beneficial to the selected charities, but at the event itself, it’s the special needs children who benefit the most as they’re transformed into cowboys and cowgirls for a day.
Ropin’ Rascals is a one-day special needs children’s charity event occurring annually at the Huwa Family Ranch in Keenesburg. The event focuses on special needs children who transform into cowboys and cowgirls for a day. Eight rodeo-themed stations and activities mirror both the modern and Old West. These activities include therapeutic horseback riding (equine therapy), roping lessons, John Deere Gator rides, tractor rides, barrel racing on stick-horses and stagecoach tours, all around the indoor rodeo arena.
The Colorado Suns with Special Needs provides eligible special needs children and young adults with the support they need to pursue competitive cheerleading. Colorado Suns provides a safe and fun environment that emphasizes sportsmanship, teamwork, physical activity and friendship. It promotes confidence while stretching and toning muscles, developing balance, motor skills, focus, emotional awareness, impulse control, assertiveness and coordination. The team practices and competes in the Special Athlete division in All-Star Competitions.
Make-A-Wish Colorado, a non-profit organization and one of 62 total chapters throughout the United States, was founded in 1983 as one of the nation’s first Make-A-Wish chapters. Make-A-Wish Colorado benefits children diagnosed with life-threatening medical conditions and critical illnesses. Throughout the state, over 5,000 eligible children aged two to 17 have been granted wishes. Make-A-Wish operates in 45 other countries through 38 affiliate offices and has granted over 300,000 wishes worldwide since it was started in Phoenix, Arizona in 1980.
