The Colorado Suns with Special Needs provides eligible special needs children and young adults with the support they need to pursue competitive cheerleading. Colorado Suns provides a safe and fun environment that emphasizes sportsmanship, teamwork, physical activity, and friendship. Cheerleading promotes confidence and is an opportunity to stretch and tone muscles, and develop balance, motor skills, focus, emotional awareness, impulse control, assertiveness, and coordination. The team practices and competes in the Special Athlete division in All-Star Competitions.
Make-A-Wish Colorado, a non-profit organization and one of 62 total chapters throughout the United States, was founded in 1983 as one of the nation’s first Make-A-Wish chapters. Make-A-Wish Colorado benefits children diagnosed with life-threatening medical conditions and critical illnesses. Throughout the state, over 5,000 eligible children aged two to 17 have been granted wishes. Make-A-Wish operates in 45 other countries through 38 affiliate offices and has granted over 300,000 wishes worldwide since it was started in Phoenix, Arizona in 1980.
