There is a volunteer opportunity for anyone who wants to participate in our Ropin’ Rascals children’s charity event in Keenesburg. Volunteers almost always have as much fun as the participants while they help transform special needs children into cowboys and cowgirls for the day, all while building a lifetime memories for everyone involved. Charity volunteering offers an opportunity to participate directly in the event, and the volunteers know they benefit charities like Make-A-Wish Colorado and Colorado Suns with Special Needs.
Horse Football™ has deep roots in history but has been heavily modified by the Huwa family for Ropin’ Rascals, a children’s charity event in Keenesburg. Our cowboys and cowgirls participate in the event with horses, but in a safer environment than the original horseball games. It focuses on fun and teamwork rather than competition. In playing, the children also get to practice what they learn in their roping lessons. Horse Football™ is often the event that is talked about long after Ropin’ Rascals ends.
Ropin’ Rascals’ charity volunteers at the Keenesburg event transform special needs children into cowboys and cowgirls for a day. There are eight interactive stations with rodeo-themed events in an indoor arena: therapeutic horseback riding (equestrian therapy), roping lessons, John Deere Gator rides, tractor rides, barrel racing on a stick-horse and stagecoach tours—all around the Huwa ranch. The day is broken into two sessions: morning and afternoon. Volunteers leave the event with just as many lasting memories as the children.
In helping transform the special needs children into cowgirls and cowboys for a day, the volunteers at the Ropin’ Rascals children’s charity event in Keenesburg will often have just as much fun as the children themselves. The success with the event is based on the diligent work of the volunteers, certainly nothing could happen without them. And if volunteers ever wonder if their time makes a difference, it can be gauged by the smiles on the faces of the children.
